Due to staff reductions, US embassies and consulates in Russia have temporarily stopped issuing visas. For Russian citizens, the only option to obtain an American visa is now to travel to other countries for an interview.

Obtaining an American visa is available in Poland. For Russians, this is convenient because the interview in Warsaw can be conducted in Russian.

Rules for visiting the US Embassy or Consulate*

Applicants with the following items are not permitted into the US Embassy/Consulate:

  • Large bags/purses or zippered folders larger than an A-4 page. Only one plastic bag or folder with visa documents, or a small purse or bag, is allowed. Immigrant visa applicants may bring documents and a sealed envelope with medical examination results.
  • Luggage, suitcases, briefcases, backpacks, and other travel bags are not permitted in the embassy/consulate and cannot be left near it or on the street. It is recommended to leave luggage at your hotel or in a locker at the train station.
  • Battery-operated electronic devices such as cameras, laptops, recording devices, and portable music players.
  • Food and drinks.
  • Sealed envelopes and folders, with the exception of medical examination results.
  • Cigarettes, cigars, matches, and lighters.
  • Sharp objects, such as scissors, knives, or nail files.
  • Any weapons or explosives.
  • Mobile phones must be left with the embassy/consulate security officer.

The list of items prohibited from being brought into the embassy is not limited to those listed. Security Service personnel may prohibit other items from being brought into the embassy at their discretion.

The embassy/consulate does not have the ability to store prohibited items (except mobile phones). These items must be left elsewhere before visiting the embassy.

Only U.S. citizens applying for ACS services, visa applicants, and ACS section applicants with an interview appointment are allowed into the Consular Section.

Unfortunately, there is no parking at the embassy/consulate building, and cars cannot stop or stand on the street in front of the building. Visa applicants and American Citizen Services (ACS) clients coming to the embassy/consulate by car must park their car in one of the paid parking spaces near the embassy or must be dropped off on the street.
